The other day, I was in the Dayton airport, to catch my flight to Dallas. It was the week of Thanksgiving, and there was a long queue for the security screening. Standing in the queue, my eye balls were rolling over in all directions looking for any cool stuff so that I could pass my time.
Then my eyes rested on a banner about flights. I remembered that the officially recognized inventors of flight were the Wright Brothers, who were Dayton based. It took me about 2.5 hours to reach Dallas from Dayton. I did a quick search on Google about how long it would take to reach Dallas from Dayton by car, and it turned out to be approximately 15 hours.
It amused me whether the Wright Brothers had imagined that such a long distance would be covered so comfortably by their invention. Their first official successful flight had lasted in the air for only 12 seconds!
This set me to write an article on one vital ingredient which is an absolute MUST that guarantees success.
Let us try to analyze this with a simple example. Let us assume that you happened to come in contact with your good childhood friend after a long time. He invited you to his home for a New Year's party. He lives at about 3 hours from your place.
It is the 31st of December. You are excited. You pack up your stuff, get into your car, switch on your favorite music and hooshh...you are on your way thinking about the great time that you will have with your friend.
As soon as you hit the highway, you notice there is a road-repair going on. You manage to find an alternate route though this route takes a bit longer time.
After an hour or so, you notice that it is getting cloudy, and it starts to rain heavily. You will have to stop at a safe location in order to take a break. The rain subsides and you are back on your way to your destination.
To your disappointment, you get stuck in an extremely busy traffic this time. It is taking about 30 minutes even to get through just one mile. Well, it takes about 2 hours for you to get through that traffic.
At last, you reach your friend's town. Being new to this town, you have difficulty finding his home. After querying other people and with some trial and errors, you find your friend's home.
If we take the part of reaching your friend's home as a goal here, we can observe something convincing. The most crucial part for your success is this - START taking action. RESULTS WILL COME ONLY WHEN YOU START TAKING ACTION!
Once you start working on any of your goals, you will realize certain things:
1. Firstly, you will learn more and grow more when you start taking action
2. The process is different to some extent (or totally different!) from the way you expected
3. You will have to change many of your plans
SO, START taking action!!
Think about one important goal in your life that you want to achieve. No matter how far you are from it, just START.
There is a saying that I would like to mention here - 'Leap and the net will appear' (Do it with a calculated risk and proper planning though. No gambling).
When we START the task by putting it into action and get busy, one of the first positive things that we will experience is PSYCHOLOGICAL BOOST AND EMOTIONAL ENERGY.
You may be surprised at your victories later in your life.
